The Spinal Cord is divided into 4 sections. It consists of the Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, and the Sacral regions.
Cervical Region The cervical region is made up of 7 cervical vertebrae (termed as C1-C7). C1 at the top and C7 at the bottom.
Thoracic Region The thoracic region includes 12 thoracic vertebrae, known as T1-T12. These vertebras are attached to the rib bones and the sternum. Since this part of the spine if attached to the ribs and sternum, it is very stable and has few problems.
Lumbar Region Dealing with motion and flexibility, the lumbar region consists of 5 vertebras known as, L1-L5. This section of the spine deals most with back problems because it bears most of your body weight and allows you to have more motion.
Sacral Region Below the lumbar region is the sacral region. It contains 5 bony parts known as S1-S5. They create a a triangle shaped bone and serves as the base for the spine
